Growing up as a human, developing physically and mentally, surviving and thriving at life is partly the result of spending time between stressors.
Think of simple early age stressors like gravity for development of stability & coordination, daylight and the right nutrients, to name just a few that are important to basic human development.
You need to expose yourself to different stressors frequently throughout your life to remain healthy and resilient.
Later in life these early day basic stressors that for example helped you to develop strength against gravity and as a result you gained the ability to walk will be accompanied by more complex stressors that are not only limited to a physical level anymore but also mental and spiritual.
Only when you open yourself to thoughts, conversations and exchanges outside of your usual patterns, you will also experience the development and growth on a mental and spiritual level.
The “stressors” I keep referring to - think of them as anything that is not living within your comfort zone, physically, mentally or spiritually.
We are all unique:
The amount of stress that leads to a healthy development will be significantly different for every person!
But we are all “snowflakes”:
Unique with the same rules that apply to us - which means there is equally for all of us no way around the concept of exposure to stressors for a healthy life!
Life is dynamic and challenges us every moment to stay within our equilibrium, the sweet spot that develops from spending time in between exposure to stressors and rest/adaptation.
Leaving the comfort zone (exposure to stressors) will allow you to experience growth!
Both ends of this spectrum (too little, a.k.a. rest/recovery, and too much) need to be part of life for a continuing healthy development.
We need to keep things moving to keep growing:
moving physically, moving thoughts, moving emotions, otherwise we die.
Nothing in this universe can stay still and remain alive.
If we stop to grow – we die.
Pick your stressors
If there would be a take away I would wish for you, the reader of this article, it would be to simply start to create awareness for what kind of stressors and opposing resting-/adaptation- periods you can make a frequent part of your life.
1 - Which physical stressors are a part of your life to build physical resilience?
(write down 3 with different intensities)
2 - Which mental strategies do follow to expose yourself to new thought patterns?
(write down 3 ways you do this)
3 - What do you do spiritually to keep growing?
(write down 3 ways you exercise spiritually)
4 - What are some ways for you to recover, apart from simply sleeping at night?
(write down 3 ways to refresh/recover that you can make a part of your daily life)
